Many of the Germans to Quincy came from the Provinces of Hannover and Oldenburg and Muensterland. They moved back and forth from Quincy and the West Point, Iowa area. The first German Catholic Priest to visit the area was Father August Brickwedde from Fuerstenau, Hannover. He formed the first German Catholic Parish on the Mississippi River in 1837 in Quincy, Illinois. He visited the Sugar Creek (St. Paul) and Fort Madison area. He said a Mass at the Kemper farm in the 1830's. More inform, ation is needed. Mike Brinkman in Quincy, Illinois.
