Obituary of Mrs. Mikkel Olson

Mrs. Mikkel Olson (nee Gundhild Nortvedt) was born at Vats, near Stavanger, Norway, Jan. 3, 1853, and died at Mason City, Ia., (while on a visit) Nov. 15, 1927. She was at her death 74 years and 11 months old.

In 1879, at the age of 26 years, she came to Story City from Norway. In 1880 she was united in marriage to Mikkel Olson, who preceded her in death 17 years ago. They settled on a farm five miles west of Randall, where they lived until 1907 when they moved to Story City. Since her husband's death Mrs. Olson has made her home in Story City.

Mrs. Olson was the mother of four children. One of them, Mrs. Goodmond Olson, has preceded her in death. Those who are living are: Ole Olson, on the home farm; Halvard Olson, Northwood, Iowa and Mrs. Oscar Olson of Clear Lake, Iowa. She also leaves a brother, Mr. Lars Nortvedt, Ethen, S. D.; one half brother, Nels Nortvedt, Callender, Iowa, and two half sisters, Mrs. Math Johnson, Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and Mrs. T. Gramstad*, Dana, Iowa. Also ten grand children.

Nov. 18 she was buried from St. Petri church, Story City, where her pastor, Rev. G. O. Paulsrud, officiated, assisted by Rev. W. Scarvie. A large audience was present to pay respect to this good Christian mother, friend and neighbor.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: "Mrs. T. Gramstad" was Valborg (Nortvedt) Gramstad, the wife of Theodore M. Gramstad. On her marriage record, she lists her parents as Halvard Nortvedt and Siri Nilson.
