Life for Robin Lynn Van Den Berg began on February 25, 1960, in Newburgh, New York. Her parents, Rev. Marvin Eugene and Saundra (Ecker) Van Den Berg were serving the Dutch Reformed Church in Newburgh.
They had returned to Pella, Iowa to visit his parents, John P. and Margaret (Klein) Van Den Berg. Following worship services on Sunday morning, August 30, 1964, they were involved in a tragic automobile train accident. The accident claimed the life of Rev. Van Den Berg at the age of 32 years, but spared the lives of Sandi and Robin. Soon thereafter Sandi, Robin and Scott Keith, who was seven years of age at the time, moved back to Pella.
Following Rev. Van Den Berg’s death and being a single parent with two young children, Sandi and Darrell Clarence Shaefer were united in marriage and Darrell became a devoted father to Robin and Scott, nurturing and teaching them important lessons in life.
Robin received her education in the Pella Public Schools and graduated from Pella High School. Robin was a very social person during high school.
On September 7, 1978, she and John Thomas Downing were united in marriage and he passed away at the age of 33 years.
Robin and Danny Lee Redding were united in marriage on July 16, 1991 in New Jersey. They began sharing their lives with his daughters, Jessica, Lacey, and Kelcey. Robin and Dan just enjoyed being together camping, fishing, boating, and antiquing.
For the past 25 years, Robin had been employed at Two Rivers Cooperative in Pella and was currently the credit manager. She was highly respected for her role in the organization.
On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, she passed away at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of 58 years.
Robin leaves her husband, Dan Redding of Harvey, Iowa, three daughters and their husbands and six grandchildren, Jessica and Justin Colella and their children, Sullivan and Cooper of Des Moines, Iowa; Lacey and Patrick Deremiah and their children, Tate and Levi of Adel, Iowa; Kelcey and Joey Firestine and the children, Malila and Scarlet of Des Moines.

Robin was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Marvin E. Van Den Berg and her step-father, Darrell C. Shaefer on July 3, 2016, along with her grandparents.
Memorial services were held on Monday, March 19, at the First Reformed Church in Pella. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
