Welcome To
The Decatur County IAGenWeb Project

My name is Sharon R. Becker , coordinator of Decatur County's IAGenWeb site.

My maternal ancestral roots in Decatur County go back to the 1850's when the Edwards and Ramsey family took a riverboat most of the way from Tennessee, the John Day Young family arrived from Kentucky, the Thomas Emley family came from Danville, Illinois, and the Michael Foland family came from Muncie, Indiana. The family farm northeast of Grand River in Richland Township, where I grew up, was farmed by my great-grandparents Samuel and Sarah Belle (Emley) Foland, my grandparents, Homer and Pearle (Bramon) Foland, my parents, Grant and Norma G. (Foland) Becker, and now by my brother Stan. He also owns and farms the original Michael and Elizabeth (Sowerwine) Foland homestead.

I attended elementary and junior high school at Grand River, graduated from Grand Valley High School in Kellerton and from Graceland University in Lamoni. I've lived in rural Grand River, Lamoni, Davis City and Leon over the years.

PLEASE NOTE: I currently do not live in Decatur County and am unable to do individual research but will answer any questions that I can. Refer to the Lookup Volunteer and Decatur County Resources pages (listed below) for help with your individual research.

We were saddened to learn of Carla Rae Perks' death on September 14, 2015.
Carla was the coordinator for IAGenWeb's Decatur County site in the 1990's and early 2000's.
Carla devoted many hours transcribing biographies, obituaries and cemetery records, along with walking many of the county's cemeteries to gather information for this website. Carla laid the spine and foundation for this website. Her dedication and devotion for Decatur County lives on through us. We are grateful for her work which will serve those who visit this website for many, many years to come. Rest in peace, Carla, and be assured that you accomplished a job very well done.

Carla's obituary may be accessed here

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Stacey Dietiker, previous Decatur County Coordinator, who has nurtured and cultivated this website over the past few years. We wish her continued success and enjoyment as she opens the door to enter the next chapter of her life.

Her dedication and devoted work with Decatur County have been appreciated by many who have visited this site over the years.
