MARCH 26, 1931 - SEPTEMBER 13, 2021

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore. Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Renwick and will continue one hour prior to the funeral mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Masks are strongly recommended. A burial will be held at a later date in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Livermore. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to American Heart Association, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore, or any mental health facility in Richard's name.

Richard Dale Sawyer, son of Marvin and Gladys (Bjornson) Sawyer was born March 26, 1931. He attended and graduated from Livermore High School. In 1951, he enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. Following the Army, he was united in marriage to Kay Cayou on September 2, 1953 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore. The couple made their home in Livermore where they owned and operated Sawyer's Super Valu until it was tragically destroyed by a fire. Upon which they moved to Renwick in 1971 and owned and operated Sawyer's Clover Farm. Richard retired from his business when he was 60.

Richard's hobbies included a balance between the outdoors and indoors. He enjoyed tending his flowers as well as being the caretaker for the flowers located throughout the city of Renwick. Richard always had time for a round of golf at Spring Valley. He also loved to go bowling or sit back, relax and watch sports or a "Spaghetti Western" on TV. Richard was a special person and always giving to everyone. What was most
important to him was his family and his faith. He loved his wife and children dearly. He had the time of his life watching his children play sports. His grandchildren were also the light of his life. He cared deeply for his community, always willing to help those in need. Richard had been a faithful lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Richard died Monday, September 13, 2021 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion. He was 90.
He is survived by his children, Sandy Sawyer of Boone, Sue (Craig) Slattum of Joice, Jeff Sawyer of Minneapolis, MN, and Jay (Carri) Sawyer of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Abbey (Troy) Hess, Jordan (Kassandra) Sawyer and Troy Sawyer; his step-grandchildren, Katie (Luke) Thielen, Jason (Alyssa) Slattum and his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Milo, Cora; and step-great-grandchildren, Ben, Haley, Hannah, Lauren; brother, Charles "Tom" (Jeannie) Sawyer of Branson, MO; sisters-in-law, Sharon Sawyer of Humboldt, Barb Sawyer of Humboldt; brother-in-law, Joe (Lou) Cayou of International Falls, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death by his parents; wife, Kay Sawyer; son, Jared; infant son, Jay Michael; and Beverly, Marvin Jr., Gerald, Virginia, Kenny, Merlin, and Patty.
