Dennis D. NEREM
March 1, 1942 ---- September 1, 2021

Dennis Nerem, son of Selmer and Bernice, was born on March 1st, 1942. He entered eternal life on September 1, 2021. His spirit is carried on by his son David Nerem, Granddaughters Cassie Nerem, Amanda Nerem, Samantha Nerem, Haley Nerem and Shannon McGuckin, Great Grandsons Kade and Kam, Siblings Wendie Nerem, Scott Nerem, Sister-in-Law Betty Nerem, Nephews, Eric Kamp, Blaine Kamp and Sam Nerem, Niece, Erin Kamp, and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Nancy McGuckin, Kathy (Vernon) Kamp, and Keith (Sherry) Nerem.

Dennis grew up in Renwick attending Boone Valley Community school his first eleven years. In 1960 he moved to Longmont, CO. Where he graduated high school and moved back to Renwick.

In 1961 Dennis enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1965. He held a variety of jobs following the Air Force: Renwick Farmer's Cooperative, a mechanic for Umthun Trucking, and Nerem and Sons, a business owned by his father. He later took over the business and renamed it Nerem Repair. He drove semi for Warner Trucking in Mason City then Harold Trask of Renwick.

We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Denny in his 79 ½ years. Among them: Windex can be used as a full-body wash, never throw away a bicycle, the emergency room is for wimps, drive slowly when others need to go fast, and never set your chair on a slant too close to the lake.

Dennis enjoyed many things throughout his life; capsizing sailboats with his brother Scott, stopping to pick up trash while his granddaughters were running late, driving his golf cart as slow as possible, and cherishing his granddaughter's laughter as he pulled them on a sled with his Geo Tracker.

He was a connoisseur of the "Truck Driver Special", waffles, peanut butter toast, fudgesicles, and warming up the kids with his hot cocoa.

Dennis will be remembered for helping out others with small engine repairs any time of day or night, scaring the local kids by showing them his missing fingers after the "shark attack" and his original fashion choices while cruising around Renwick.

The most important thing Denny shared with his family was his faith. Dennis was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick and has set a good example for his family and friends with strong Christian values. One of his granddaughters said "I would always look towards the back of the church and he would be sitting in the very last pew. It always made me so happy to see him there." The imprint he made on people's lives will not be soon forgotten.

We will say our "goodbye for now" to Denny on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with a family memorial graveside service at Lake Lutheran. Followed by a Community luncheon at 1:00 p.m. at the Renwick Community Center - all are welcome!
