George Baryo, 72, of Sioux City died Wednesday, November 26, 1997 at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with the Rev. Evangelos Pepps officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Baryo was born April 18, 1925 in Agia, Galini, Crete, Greece. The son of Lukas and Chrysso (Patakos) Bariatakis. He served in the Greek military and was a resistance fighter during World War II.

He married Manolia Petrakakis in 1946 in Greece. He married Eleni Zografakis on October 5, 1972 in Greece. He was raised in Crete and came to the United States and Sioux City in February 1969. He was employed as a tailor with Sadoffs Clothing since 1969.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, the men’s order of AHPA and the Cretan Psilorite Organization.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, John and Mary of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Chyrsso and Taso Michalides of Nicosia, Cyprus; three sisters, Anna Theros of Sioux City, Maria Rousakis and Pope Skamnakis, both of Crete; four grandchildren, George, Tommy and Leah Baryo and Emmanouella Michalides and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John Bariatakis and a sister, Elaine Stamoulis.

Pallbearers will be Nick Kasotakis, Mike and Ted Michelakakis, Lester Sadoff, Gus Theros, Rick Jones and Gus Demetroulis.

Memorial may be directed to the restoration fund at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodix Church.
