HAROLD L. SPEES

Harold L. Spees, son of Hallie and Bertha Hively Spees, was born April 15, 1915 at Madison, Minnesota, and departed this life Wednesday, June 11, 1986 at Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 71. He had suffered a heart attack while traveling near Amana and was pronounced dead on arrival at University Hospital, Iowa City.

His early life was spent in the Birmingham community and he moved with is parents to Eldora where he graduated high school. He served in the United States Army from 1936 until 1960 and retired to Clarksville, Tennessee. He was a member of New Providence United Methodist Church, Clarksville, was a Mason and a member of the American Legion and Retired Officers Association.

On December 24, 1935 he married Frances Elsensohn at Downing, Missouri.

Survivors are his wife; one son, Larry, Clarksville; a daughter, Linda Pitts, Kileen, Texas; five granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Kenneth of Waterloo and Donald of Olympia, Washington. A sister, Thelma Burrows preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 14, 1986 at 11 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, with Rev. Charles Butler officiating. Interment was in Leando Cemetery at Douds. A memorial was established for the organ fund of New Providence United Methodist Church, Clarksville, Tennessee.
