Albert VanDerWall

Albert VanDerWall, 72, died Wednesday night, August 1 at the Van Buren Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for one day.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 4 at 2 p.m., at the Birmingham United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

VanDerWall was born March 28, 1901 at Pella, the son of John and Sarah Katsma VanDerWall. He was married to Susie Leyden, who survives.

A former area farmer, he was also a former employee of the Dexter Company in Fairfield.

Besides his widow, he is survived by one son, James of Richton, Ill., one daughter, Mrs. Leona Whitcanack of Keosauqua; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers, Pete and Ed of Oskaloosa and Gilbert of Reasoner; five sisters, Mrs. Anna Lousna, Mrs. Bessie Meinders, Mrs. Gertie VanWorkman and Mrs. Angelina Harvey all of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Kay Nieuwsma of New Holland, Ill.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and two brothers.
