John E. Smith

DOUDS - John E. Smith, 61, of Helena, Mo., formerly of Douds, died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday at University Hospital in St. Joseph, Mo.

The son of John and Mary Jane Shaffer Smith, he was born Feb. 14, 1912, and reared in the Douds community.

Mr. Smith married Frances Tade of Milton, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, J.P., Richard and Allen; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Claiborn, and three sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Robinson of Floris and Mrs. Donna Carson and Mrs. Betty Fellows, both of Springfield, Va.

The service will be Tuesday, 10 a.m. at Heaton and Bauman Funeral Home in St. Joseph, with a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Leando Cemetery near Douds.
