Mrs. Bertha Parks

Bertha Elleanor Jackson Parks was born near Douds, Iowa, April 2, 1884, and passed away at a hospital in Seattle, Wash., on Mar. 7, 1968, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and five days. She was the daughter of John Thomas and Tempie Prichard Jackson.

She was married to Launy J. Parks on Feb. 28, 1917 at Ottumwa, Iowa. He passed away April 7, 1927. To this union was born one daughter, Helen Gertrude (Mrs. Ross V. Davis) of Seattle, Wash. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Kathleen L. and Margaret L. Davis; two nephews, Charlie Jackson of Miami, Fla. and Ira J. Phillips of Glendale, Ariz. and one niece, Mrs. Rebecca L. Lawson of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Mrs. Parks was the last of her family. Two brothers, Jesse A. and Frank L. Jackson and four sisters, Edna V. Phillips, Hilda M. Arbaugh, Allie J. Jackson and Perle L. Phillips preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Methodist church at Birmingham, Iowa. During the early 1930's she was resident director of the Y.W.C.A. in Ottumwa. She lived in Ottumwa for many years until moving to Seattle in recent years.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Mar. 14, 1968 at 2 P.M. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. Dennis Nicholson, Methodist pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Douds.
