Frederick E. 'Bud' Winkler, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died October 30, 2016, at his home.

Inurnment and graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bonaparte Cemetery. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to the family for HCI Care Services. The Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born March 31, 1935, in Everett, WA, Frederick Earle was the son of Granville and Zula Davis Winkler. Bud was raised in Mukilteo, WA, and lived in the Puget Sound area. He was a 1953 graduate of Everett High School. Following high school, Bud enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. On June 22, 1957, he married Joan Forshee in Everett, WA. She preceded him in death on August 30, 2013.

While living in Washington, Bud was co-owner of President's Car Garage and later was part owner of Federal Way Truck Village. In 1983, he moved to Bonaparte and retired from WalMart Loss Prevention in 1997. The Winklers moved to Mt. Pleasant in 2007.

A big fan of the Washington Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks, Bud enjoyed life and was full of spunk and spirit. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always looked forward to Old Threshers when he would spend time with family and friends. He was a member of the Sargeant-Osweiler Post No. 563, American Legion, of Bonaparte, IA.

Bud is survived by two daughters, Kim Dorothy of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Karen (Mark) Mitchell of Salem, IA: three Sons, Steve (Teresa) Winkler of Dash Point, WA, Stan (Shawna) Winkler of Spokane, WA, and Scott Winkler of Bonaparte, LA; five grandchildren, Chris (Emily) Dorothy, Lyndsey (Dustin) Eberhart, Tiffany Frownfelter, Joey Frownfelter, and Keirstin Winkler; and four great-grandchildren, Dryden Dorothy, Shelby Eberhart, Dylann Eberhart, and Gunnar Dorothy. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Peggy (Jack) Woodmansee; a brotherin-law, Ervin McCracken; along with many nieces and nephews.

Along with his wife and parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sister, Donna McCracken.
