Education: Attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Panama and Portsmouth, IA for grade school. When she was in fifth grade, she was part of the first class to attend Panama’s one room school when it was moved into town. (At the time of her passing, Laura served as vice president of Panama’s Historic One Room School Museum - Washington Township #7.) In 1969, Laura graduated with the Harlan (IA) Community High School. She then attended University of Northern Iowa and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Photography in May 1973. While there, she traveled to Bogota, Columbia as a foreign exchange student.

Employment: After completing college, Laura was employed by Buntrock Salie Studio in Storm Lake, IA. A couple of years after they married, Laura and Henry became owners of Logeland Studio in Harlan, IA. This partnership carried on the photography legacy of Laura’s parents, and the “Arkfeld Studio.” Laura and Mike served on the McKenna Color Lab Advisory Board for many years until his unexpected passing in 2001. Laura ran the business herself until she retired. After her “retirement,” she worked as the secretary at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Parish, Panama, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: With her business in Harlan, IA, Laura was instrumental in the Harlan (IA) Main Street Development Project; she was inducted into the Harlan Community Schools Booster Club Hall of Fame. She lived in and loved the Panama (IA) community where she was involved with a book club, a sewing circle, music ministry and prayer groups. She enjoyed being a prayer partner for the Shelby County Catholic School. She loved light houses, water, sailing, speed boats, and Jimmy Buffett.
