Death of Mrs. J. M. Long
Mrs. Long, wife of J. M. Long died at her home in Avoca Tuesday morning, November 2, aged sixty-nine years, four months and nine days. The funeral services were held at her late home today at one o’clock, where a large number of her neighbors and friends gathered to pay their last respects to the departed one. The services were very plain, but impressive. Mary Clingman Long was born June 23, 1840, in Stevenson County, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood. In February 22, 1866, she was united in marriage to James M. Long. In May 1880 they moved to Avoca where she has since made her home. In 1881, she united with the Methodist church. She is survived by her husband, a brother, Charles Clingman, of Covington, Kentucky, and two sisters, Mrs. Carrie McAfee, of Cedarville, Illinois and Mrs. Charles Humphrey, of Jewel City, Kansas. Mrs. Long has been in poor health for several years the last few months she has been confined to her home. Everything was done for her comfort but her condition was beyond medical skill. Mrs. Long was a lady whose kindness and interest in her friends and neighbors made her a large circle of friends, to know her was to love her, she lived a life that the world is better that she had lived. To the bereaved husband and relatives the community extends sympathy.
