Mitchellville – Beverly J. Bailey, 71, died on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at her home from congestive heart failure. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Santiago United Methodist Church with burial at Franklin township Cemetery, Santiago.
Bev was born August 18, 1933 in rural Jasper County, as the first born to Russell and Pauline Sparks. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge of Altoona, American Legion Auxiliary Post #155 in Mitchellville, and the Santiago United Methodist Church in which she was very active with the youth groups. Bev loved fishing, camping, bowling, playing cards, crocheting, quilting, and being with family and friends.
Bev and her husband of 53 years, farmed for ten years, then operated the Bailey’s D-X Gas Station north of Bondurant for ten years, and finally retired from Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company after 35 years.
Bev is survived by her husband, Kenneth F. Bailey of Mitchellville; children, Keith (Nancy) Bailey of Bondurant, Kevin (Dixie) Bailey of Prairie City, Kenneth (Shelly) Bailey of Dallas Center, and Ceann (Chuck) Hewitt of Baxter; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; brother, LeRoy Sparks of Missouri; sisters, Mary Craig of Mitchellville and Patty Valline of Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parent, one sister, one brother, three nephews, one niece, and one great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be given to Santiago United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with family present from 4 to 6 p.m. at Altoona Funeral Home.
