Young Man Meets Untimely Death

Clarence Ravnsborg Is Killed When Car Overturns at Curve Near Home.

Is the Son of Mr. and Mrs. Rammus Ravnsborg Well Known Resident of Near Turin – The Funeral was Held Tuesday Afternoon

Slippery conditions of the highway is given as the cause of the death Sunday noon of Clarence Ravnsborg, 20 year old who reside with his parents on a farm south of Turin, The car in which he was riding over turned at a sharp curve in the road 5 miles south east of Turin and near his home. He was on his way home with his brother Harold when the accident occurred.

Clarences face was badly lacerated and the back of his head was cut. Dr. Gingles of Castana who was called to the scene stated that Clarence died instantly. It is not known exactly how he was killed but it is thought that his head was caught in the door when the car overturned. Harold was uninjured.

Clarence Edwin Ravnsborg was born at Turin, Iowa, December 18th 1910 and passed away on February 22, 1931 at the age of 20 years 2 months 4 days.

He grew to manhood under the parental home, there he made a place for himself in the love of his family and are respected of his many friends. He worked upon the home farm and proved himself a willing and faithful diligent and cheerful workman.

He was baptized as a child in the Ingeman Lutheran Church. Later, he became a pupil in the Turin ME Sunday School. He proved to be a faithful attendant there also. His helpfulness in the festival occasion and his readiness to do the hard jobs in making the school a pleasant and happy interest for others is well known.

He is well spoken of by everyone who came in contact with him as clean honorable and upright young man. His untimely passing beclouded the hearts of the whole community.

He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Ravnsborg and three brothers, Ernest, Harold and Kermit, and they are upheld in their sorrow by a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the home and the ME Church in Turin on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Thos Batho conducted the services giving a word of warming, appeal and comfort from the text “Be ye al so ready for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

After the church was filled hundreds of people reverently stood around the church building at the close of the services viewed the remains. Mrs. Fred Knudsen, Miss Marguerite Cosgrove, Fred Reese, Gunar Olson and Mrs. Paulson at the piano gave comfort in song and music.

A wealth of floral offerings were banked about the burial during the services.

At the close the young women of the Sunday school class to which Clarence belonged made a pathway of flowers through the aisles over which his body was borne. At the grave side they sang “Asleep in Jesus” and stood about the grave bearing armful of flowers while the ritual and the prayer of hope and faith were read by the pastor.

The Brown Funeral Home of Onawa had charge of the funeral and directed the great crowd with reverent dignity and efficiency.

Burial was made in the Belvidere Cemetery near Turin.
