Avery Family

AVERY, TROWBRIDGE

In 1860 my great grandfather's brother (& his family) and sister (with her family) left Ulster County, NY and went West. They ended up in Linn County, Iowa where, for the most part they and most of their descendants have remained. As far as I can tell.
My grandfather's sister was Maria Avery she was married to Hiram Trowbridge. I have been able to track and trace their family fairly well.
My grandfather's brother was John S. Avery who was married to Rachel Roosa. I have been able to trace his family fairly well also. However, at the age of 54 it seems he left his wife and family and married a woman in Nebraska. I have found the marriage license and know that I have the correct man. I'm sure that his wife was still living in Linn County and I'm fairly certain that they were not divorced in 1889. Fairly, not 100% How can I find out?
If anyone has any information on any AVERY family member I would love to have it!! I would also love any photographs. Everyone has a side of the family that keeps good genealogical records and a side that doesn't. The Avery's are my side that doesn't - I've had to work for decades to learn what I have. Any nugget anyone can provide I would love to have!
Thanks :)
