One of Marion's old pioneers, Mrs. J.D. Giffen, 81, died last evening in Chicago, it was learned here today. The body will reach Marion Friday at 4:30 p.m. and funeral services will probably be held some time Saturday.
Mrs. Giffen, whose maiden name was Helen Keyes, was the widow of Judge J.D. Giffen who died in 1902, and is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J.L. Franz with whom she lived; Mrs. Bert Brett of Mason City, and Mrs. A.J. Lawrence of Louisiana.
Her husband, a daughter, Mrs. D.M. Parkhurst, two brothers, A.J. and Everett Keyes, several sisters, Mrs. L.K. Parkhurst, Mrs. Preston Daniels, Mrs. Eliza Holmes and Caroline Downing preceded her in death, besides two sisters who died in infancy.
