Richard Stanton

Richard Stanton, another old settler in Cascade, died at Mercy hospital in Dubuque Monday afternoon. Mr. Stanton's health failed rapidly during the past year, and a week before his death was taken to the hospital. While he was known to be in a weak condition, still the announcement of his death came as a surprise to the people here.

Mr. Stanton was born in Garry Owen November 1, 1845, and was the son of William and Mary Stanton. In early manhood he came to Cascade and engaged in business. In 1872 he was married to Miss Catherine Duffy of Temple Hill, and the following children were born of that union, William, of Cascade; Mrs. Hubert Meyer and Mrs. Meyer, of Meyer, Iowa; Mrs. John Himmes of Rollingstone, Minn., and Miss Lillie, of Staceyville, Iowa. He is also survived by his brothers David and William, of Garry Owen.

The funeral was held at St. Patrick's church, Garry Owen, Wednesday morning, Rev. Father Kelly officiating.
