This is very interesting. I grew up near Des Moines as a Schiernbeck, and there was absolutely no one else around with our last name other than immediate family. My father is originally from Harlan, but he is not very close to his family, so I have been trying to find more information. This helps a lot! It would be interesting to see a family tree of the family. It is such an uncommon last name, and through internet searches, it seems that most Schiernbecks are located in Iowa, so there would seem to be some sort of relation.
