4-20-1910 – Wayland News

Reuben Marshall Luellen was born near Merrimac, Henry County, Iowa, September 24, 1848 and died at Wayland, Iowa, April 13, 1910 aged 61 years, 6 months, and 9 days. In the year 1870, November 3, he was united in marriage to Allie B. Clarke. To this union were born nine children. Mary E., Martha E., and Lola L. preceded him in death leaving six children, his loving companion, his aged and invalid mother, and a host of friends and relatives to mourn their loss. Brother Luellen was a kind and loving husband and father. It seems hard that he should be taken so suddenly, but the good Lord knows best and we bow to his will. The funeral service was conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. R. Collier, pastor of the M.E. church at Wayland.

The Odd Fellows of Wayland, of which he was an honored member, had charge at the grave. Quite a number of visiting brothers came over from Brighton to assist in the very earnest and impressive services. He was laid to rest on Friday in the Wayland cemetery. May the blessing of the good Heavenly Father be with his loved ones is the prayer of this writer.

William Ballard
