Albert Freyenberger Called Last Saturday

3/15/1934 – Wayland News

Albert Freyenberger, 45 years of age, died Saturday morning at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ed Wyse, east of Noble, after an illness dating back to last autumn. When his condition did not improve with the ordinary procedure of local medical assistance, he was taken to the University Hospital for further examination but his case was perplexing to the physicians and would not yield readily to treatment.

He was persuaded last December to retire from active farm work and went to the home of his sister. Mr. Freyenberger was aware of the seriousness of his condition and was reconciled to his fate. His plight was aggravated by a stroke of paralysis on February 21. For a number of days preceding his death he was unable to speak or take nourishment.

Mr. Freyenberger was born on a farm near Wayland September 24, 1888 and died at the age of 45 years, 5 months, and 15 days. Albert, at the age of 15 years, became a member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and remained in this relationship as a worthy and upright Christian with unfaltering faith.

With the exception of two and one/half years at Camp Dodge during the World War, Albert was a member of the Wayland community. His father, Joseph Freyenberger, preceded him in death as did also twin brothers, Joseph and John in infancy.

He leaves his aged mother, four sisters, Mrs. Joseph Oswalt of Aurora Nebraska; Mrs. Henry Wenger of Wayland, Mrs. Sarah Swartzendruber of Kalona, and Mrs. Katie Wyse of near Noble, four brothers, Menno, Christian, Samuel, and his twin brother, Elmer, all of this locality.

The funeral services were held at the Sugar Creek church Monday after at two o’clock. Rev. A. H. Miller of the Eicher church read the exhortation upon faith as found in the 11th chapter of Hebrews and offered prayer. His pastor, Rev. S. Gingerich, used as a basis of his sermon the 14th verse of the 13th chapter of Hebrews, “For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come” . This in brief expressed Albert’s philosophy of life. Interment was made in the Sugar Creek cemetery.
