Viola Belle Livingston

Viola Belle Creighton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Creighton, was born at Oakville, Iowa May 14, 1859 and was the first baby born in that town. She died at the home of her brother in Goodland, Kansas January 18, 1910, having been taken there in hopes to receive benefit by change of climate and relief from that dread disease tuberculosis. She was united in marriage to Harry C. Livingston at Burlington, Iowa August, 22, 1908 and her husband and her mother were at her bedside when she died. She was stricken with tuberculosis about a year ago and though all the loving friends and medical skill could devise was done, the disease could not be checked. She was a patient sufferer and bore her affliction with Christian fortitude and her last words were “If it is God’s will, I am ready to go”. She is survived by her husband, her father and mother, two sisters and four brothers.

Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved ones, and especially to the devoted husband who is so soon called to mourn the death of his loved bride. ‘Twould seem as though the knell of death were ringing with the wedding chime and that the bridal roses scarce have dropped until there must be plaited the funeral wreath.

Her body was brought back to her childhood home and funeral services were held from the Presbyterian Church at Oakville, January 21, 1910 conducted by Rev. A. D. Russell. Beautiful floral tributes showed the sincere affection of many friends.
