Joseph Zear was born near Strosburg France Feb. 14, 1835. Coming to America with his parents in 1842, when only seven years old, locating in Stark County, Ohio where they resided for a short time when they emigrated to Henry County Iowa where he continuously resided until his death which occurred at his home south of Coppock January 21, 1910. He was united in marriage June 28, 1863 to Miss Delilah Carpenter. To this union four children were born, three of whom with the wife still survive him, Mattie, the second daughter having preceded him to the better land some years ago at the age of 25 years. Those living are Mrs. Milo Hinshaw of Fairfield, Iowa, Charley of Wayland, Iowa, and Joseph of Richland, Iowa. Father Zear was a good citizen, kind neighbor, a loving husband and father. He died as he had lived, trusting in the promises of his Redeemer. The funeral services were conducted at his late residence by the writer using for his remarks Eccl. 12-5. Mrs. Zear and children desire to thank their friends for the kindness shown them in their sad bereavement.
