J. A. MATSON

Jens Anton Matson was born in Kraghede, Denmark, Oct. 31, 1843 and died at Randall, Iowa, Jan. 1, 1928, at the age of 84 years and 2 months. In 1878 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Marie Larson, widow of Andrew Larson, deceased, who had four children after her first marriage.

In 1881 Mr. Matson came to the United States with his wife and five children, of which four were step children. They settled on a farm southwest of Jewell, but remained there only a short time, after which the family moved to Randall, where they have lived the last 41 years. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and six children, of which three are his stepchildren. The stepchildren are John Matson and Mrs. Minnie Boyd, both of Story City, and Andrew Matson of Randall. The children of his marriage to Mrs. Larson are Mrs. Tillie Christian of Dallas Center, Chris of Randall, and Mrs. Thora Allen of Milwaukee, Wis. Mr. Matson also leaves 29 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, besides two brothers: Nels Matsen, Lincoln, Neb., and John Matsen, Wittmar, Minn.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 4th, at the home at 10:30 o'clock and at the Elim Lutheran church at 11:00, conducted by Rev. G. O. Paulsrud. Burial was made in the Dane cemetery north of town. The pall bearers were: M. L. Henderson, John Peterson, Peter Moe, J. P. Anderson, John J. Christenson and Bendick Anderson. A large number of relatives and friends were present at the last sad rites. The floral offerings were lovely, and six dollars left over from the flowers from the town was given to missions.
