Mrs. L. O. Sevold

Mrs. Seselie Gurine Sevold, whose parents were Hans and Johanne Meling, was born in Bremness, Norway, Nov. 21, 1845, and died at Slater, Ia., Dec. 29, 1927. She was at her death 82 years old. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bremness church.

In 1873, the 10th of April, she was married to Lars Olson Sevold. The same year they came to the United States. After a short stop at Story City they bought a farm 3 1/2 miles east of Randall. At this place Mrs. Sevold spent the greater part of her life. The last few years she made her home in Story City.

Her husband died March 27, 1894. Since his death Mrs. Sevold has worked the homestead with the help of her children. Being of poor health for some time, she made her home at short intervals with her daughter, Mrs. Albert Lande, Slater, Iowa. It was on one of these short stays that death overtook her.

Mrs. Sevold was the mother of nine children, of whom four have preceded her in death. Those who live are: Mrs. Bertha Lande of Slater, Mrs. Hanna Hanson of Hubbard, Mrs. Julia Christenson of Rake, Ole, who stayed with his mother at Story City, and Edward sho works the old homestead. She also leaves 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Sevold was an intelligent woman and one who took interest in the mission of the church. She was for a long time a faithful member of the Elim church at Randall, and after she came to Story City she has been a member in good standing of the Bethel church.

The burial took place Saturday, Dec. 31. A short service was held at the Albert Lande home in Slater, after which the remains were taken to Story City where the funeral service was held in Bethel church. Her pastor, Rev. Paulsrud officiated. Mrs. Sevold was then laid to rest in Mamrelund cemetery; 3 miles east of Randall.

Her last utterances were: "For Guds folk er en hvile tilbage."

Blessed be her memory.
