Howard Wescott Reese, 77, Olathe, Kan., died Sunday, May 5, 2002 at Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Olathe, Kan. Burial will be in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 5960 Dearborn, Overland Park, Kan., 66204.

Mr. Reese was born July 24, 1924 in Kinmundy, Ill., the oldest son of T. Ben and Pauline Smith Reese. Howard grew up in Jewell, Iowa, graduating from Jewell High School in 1942. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater, obtaining the rank of First Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. Howard owned and operated automotive service stations in the Jewell and Belmond areas. He married Lois Jane Schlafke on June 9, 1957. In December of that same year, the couple moved to Overland Park, Kan. He came to work as a manager and technician for Associated Photographers of Kansas City, where he worked until his retirement. Howard was a member of the Eagles, Masons, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriner's, VFW and Odd Fellows. He was an avid bowler and dedicated trout fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lois in 1992 and his younger brother, Bob Reese in 1994. Survivors are his daughter, Connie Douglas and husband Jim, son Brian Reese, 5 grandchildren, sisters, Lavonne Hanline and Betty Halleland and her husband Herbert, his brother Bill Reese and his wife Joyce, sister-in-law Helen Reese and his aunt Leona Stout of Story City, Iowa.
