Velma Carlson, 77, of 1423 Garst Avenue in Boone, Iowa passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa on Friday evening, March 28, 1997 due to congestive heart failure.

She was born on February 2, 1920 in Luther, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Iva Ella (Hoffman) Yeager.

On September 23, 1945 she married Marion Willard Carlson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Velma lived in Luther until the age of 9 when the family moved to Boone. In 1939, she graduated from Boone High School. She was employed at the Defense Plant in Ankeny until her marriage. She was later employed in restaurants in Boone. In 1946, the couple moved to a farm 5 1/2 miles southwest of Stanhope, in Hamilton County, where they made their home until 1993 when they moved to Boone.

She was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa and was a life member of the Tall Corn Antique Auto Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her husband Marion Carlson of Boone, Iowa; one son and daughter-in-law Mark and Debbie Carlson of Stanhope, Iowa; one daughter Linda Carlson of Littleton, Colorado; one brother, Lester Yeager of Seattle, Washington; one sister, Florence Browning of Boone, Iowa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Tuesday, April 1, 1997 at the South Marion United Methodist Church. Interment was in the South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa.

Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone were in charge of arrangements.
