Marion W. Carlson, 93, formerly of Boone, Iowa, passed away at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa on Wednesday evening, February 13, 2002 due to complications following surgery. He had been a resident of the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford, Iowa since March of 2001.

He was born January 8, 1909 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Franklin and Tollie (Swedlund) Carlson. On September 23, 1945, he married Velma Yeager at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

In 1946, the couple moved southwest of Stanhope where they farmed until their retirement in 1993 when they moved to Boone to make their home.

He was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa and a founding member of the Tall Corn Antique Auto Club, Boone Chapter. Marion enjoyed attending parades and events with his 1916 Model-T and Mustang convertible.

His parents, wife Velma in March of 1997, and two brothers, preceded him in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Carlson of Littleton, Colorado; one son, Mark Carlson and his wife Debbie of Stanhope, Iowa; six grandchildren, Justin Baird and Jennifer Baird both of Littleton, Colorado, Katie Carlson and Megan Carlson both of Stanhope, Iowa, Robin Cushman and her husband Brian of Webster City, Iowa; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Ivyl Carlson and his wife Ina of Madrid, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday morning, February 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the South Marion United Methodist Church south of Stratford, Iowa with Rev. Dale Schoening officiating.

Interment was at South Marion Cemetery, southeast of Stratford, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
