Mr. William Newell Johnston,61, died unexpectedly at his home in Franklin township at 12:55 a.m. Monday.

He was a farmer and a carpenter employed at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.

Mr. Johnston was the son of Edward and Ida Newell Johnston, and was born in Louisa county on April 22, 1903. He was married to Daisy Mae Wagner at Sperry on Jan. 20, 1926.

She survives, as do a son and a daughter: Mr. Wayne Johnston of Sperry and Mrs. Wanda Cone of 515 N. Eighth St., Burlington. Also surviving are two sisters: Miss Elsie Johnston, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Minnie Gulick of 1105 N. Seventh St.; and five grandchildren. Two brothers died previously. Mr. Johnston had resided in Franklin township for 38 years.

Last rites will be held at the Prugh Chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
