Thursday, December 14, 2017Ruby Arlene Kauzlarich, age 99, of Leon, Iowa, was born on July 27, 1918, in Clarke County, Iowa, the only child of Gail and Effie (Jones) Husted. She went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 11, 2017, at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa.
Ruby graduated from Van Wert High School with the Class of 1936. Following high school she attended the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Dennison, Iowa and Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, graduating with a teaching degree.
On December 29, 1945, she was united in marriage to Louis Kauzlarich. To this union five children were born, Mary Mae, who died in infancy, Michael, Martin, Galen, and Michele.
Over the years, Ruby taught country school for seven years, was an office clerk at Economy Forms for four years, worked in the dietary department at Leon Care Center for 22 years, and finished the last ten years of her career at the Leon Head Start. In her spare time, Ruby loved to read romance novels, cook dinners, and spend time with her family and friends. Saturday nights she watched Guy Lombardo and Lawrence Welk. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leon.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Louis, on December 30, 1982; daughter, Mary Mae; and great granddaughter, Rianna.
Those left to cherish Ruby’s memory include her children, Mike and Cindy Kauzlarich of Leon, Iowa, Martin and Alice Kauzlarich of Chuckey, Tennessee, Galen and Stacey Kauzlarich of Lacona, Iowa, and Michele and Raymond Weddell of Urbandale, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Tammy, Travis, Tamara, Laura, Amy, Melissa, Mindy, Abby, Aaron, Ryan, and Brandon; 13 great grandchildren, Michael, Jessica S., Erica, Savannah, Nicholas, Jessica, Jonathan, Katelyn, Devon, Kristina, Seth, Tristan, and Logan; four great, great grandchildren, Tanner, Madelyn, Weston, and Emberlynn; and other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017, with Pastor J.R. Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola, Iowa.
