Thursday, November 16, 2017Ruby Bernice Lamphiear, age 73, the daughter of Charles Andrew and Goldie Emmaline (Miller) Walters, was born August 16, 1944, in St. Joseph, Missouri. She went to be with God on Thursday, November 9, 2017, from Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa.
On July 19, 1961, Ruby married the love of her life, Samuel Lester Lamphiear, at Grace Baptist Church in Leon, Iowa. They were blessed with four children, Victoria, Samuel Bradley, Charles, and Robert. Ruby was a busy wife, mother, and homemaker most all of her life. Samuel Lester was taken from her far too early in 1975.
You couldn’t help but smile when Ruby was around. She never knew a stranger. She enjoyed gospel music, singing hymns, playing Bingo, and especially her family. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She is a past member of the First Assembly of God Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; stepfather, Melvin Perks; siblings, James, Clyde, and Marvin Walters, Velma Fitch, Thelma Burley, and Margie Larison; nieces, Mindy, Kimmy, Lori, and Lorna; and grandchildren, Shannon Lamphiear and Larry Wells.
Survivors include her children, Vicky & David Ohrtman of Colfax, Iowa, Sam & Stacy Lamphiear of Paris, Michigan, Charles & Esther Lamphiear of Kansas City, Kansas, and Bobby Lamphiear of Newton, Iowa; her many grandchildren, Jennifer Mugan, Michelle & Michael Cooper, Daniel & Mindy Ohrtman, Katelyn & Shane Lamphiear, Brandy & Matthew Jones; Elizabeth Villegas, Sammy, Jesse, Ryan, and Amber Lamphiear; great grandchildren, Jonathan, Jeremy, William, and Jacob Reisetter, Joshua, Caitlin, Micheala, and Brooklynn Cooper, Derek and Dustin Ohrtman, Wynonna Wells, Brandon and Marcus Bland, Carlos and Lena Villegas, and Michael and Mariah Rogers; siblings, Betty Flynn of Leon, Iowa, Helen Perks of Cameron, Missouri, Mary Perks Hamilton & Harry Hamilton and Robert & Pam Perks, all of St. Joseph, Missouri; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2017, with her nephew, Joe Larison, officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
