Lamoni, Decatur County, Iowa

Marianna Johnson, 81, of Independence, Missouri went all the way home to her Lord and Savior October 14, 2017.

There was a memorial service held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at The Church of Christ with The Elijah Message, The Assured Way of The Lord in Independence, Missouri. She was subsequently laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni, IA.

Marianna was born January 26, 1936 to Marvin C Jones and Lura Louise Kinney of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband Mervyn L Johnson; brother L. Thomas Jones and her son Mark T. Johnson. Marianna is survived by her 9 nieces and nephews.

Marianna grew up in Salt Lake City, UT after which she attended Graceland University in Lamoni, IA achieving an Associates Degree. While attending college she met the love of her life, Mervyn L. Johnson. They were married September 2, 1956 in Salt Lake City, UT and spent the next 57 years together. Mervyn and Marianna were blessed with a beloved child, Mark Timothy Johnson on March 24, 1957. Marianna worked in many capacities as a secretary before moving to Independence, Missouri in the early 1960’s. She continued her career as a Legal Secretary for the law offices of Keith Wilson, Jr. until retirement. She began a new career in the restaurant industry at the Englewood Café as a hostess. In 2001, Marianna was honored to receive the “Overall Employee of the Year Award” from the Greater KC Restaurant Association.

Marianna treasured spending time with her husband Mervyn, driving through the countryside admiring the puffy clouds and wild flowers. She loved Jazz music and the fine arts and enjoyed spending time in the Englewood district listening to live music and viewing the works of diverse artists in her later years. Her greatest love was The Church of Christ with the Elijah Message where she was a member for 57 years. Marianna had a beautiful voice and held the position of church chorister for many years.

Marianna was a treasure to all who knew her and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

[Interment was made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa.]
