WM. H. SHEPARD
William Henry Shepard was born February 16, 1859 at Sandwich, Ill., the son of Amos and Anna (Hall) Shepard, and passed away at the home of his neice{sic}, Mrs. H. C. Goodsell, at Nashua, Iowa, June 4, 1937, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 18 days.
Mr. Shepard came to Iowa at the age of 19 years and settled on a farm about six miles southeast of Charles City on the Illinois Central railroad, where he established a store and postoffice then known as Sargeant, Iowa. The town was later abandoned when Carrville was established a mile to the south.
On April 24, 1881, he was united in marriage to Emily Mary Day, to whom two children were born, a daughter who died in infancy and a son, Amos B. Shepard.
In 1891 they moved to Charles City where he associated in the retail lumber business with the Standard Lumber Co., and the James A. Smith Lumber Co., until 1918, when he moved to Wheaton, Ill., where Mrs. Shepard passed away on August 10, 1926. Following her decease, Mr. Shepard spent his time in Illinois, California and Iowa, making his home the last three years with his neice{sic}, Mrs. H. C Goodsell at Nashua.
