7 May 1914 - West Branch Times

Rachel Trafford, daughter of James and Mary Trafford, was born at Hibaldstow, England, March 25, 1829, and grew to womanhood in that village. March 19, 1853, she was married to John R. Cole, and with him, came to Cedar county, Iowa, in 1857. To them were born three children--Mary T. Hollingsworth, who died in 1881; Fred D. Cole, who died in 1898, and Isabel Elliott, still living.

Her husband preceded her to their happy home, in 1876. She leaves two sisters and one brother in England, and a grandson, Archie W. Hollingsworth, in San Francisco.

From girlhood she was a member of the Episcopal Church of England, and through life, leaned on the all-sustaining Arm. She was essentially a home lover and a home maker, and held the maintaining of a Christian home to be the highest work to which one could be called.

An elder sister in a large family, as wife, and as mother, hers was a life of service and devotion, and through her last brief illness, she ever showed the same sweet patience, and consideration for others that were characteristic of her. She passed peacefully to her rest, April 27, 1914, beloved by all who knew her.
