26 February 1914 - West Branch Times

Phebe S. Crozer, mother of J. L. Crozer and Mrs. P. J. Thomas of this place, died Monday morning at 5:00 o'clock at the P. J. Thomas home of acute bronchial trouble, aged 84 years. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the home, after the manner of Friends. Rev. F. B. Ross of the Congregational church took part in the services. The burial was in the Hickory Grove cemetery.

5 March 1914 - West Branch Times

Phebe James was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, June 11, 1829. She was married to Jonathan Crozer, Sept. 8, 1848. To them two children were born, Jesse Leroy and Martha Elizabeth.

She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter J. Thomas, Feb. 23, 1914, aged 84 years, 8 months, 12 days. Her husband died Dec. 2, 1882, since which time she has made her home with her children, who have cared for and made her life comfortable and contented. Of a large family of brothers and sisters, only one remains to mourn her loss, Smith James, of Pasadena, Calif.

She was a member of the Society of Friends and maintained their principle during her long Christian life.

With her family they moved to Iowa in 1852 and settled on their farm about three miles southwest of West Branch, when the country was wild and untamed. She had lived to see the country grow from the wild prairie to the highest state of civilization and cultivation.

Thus passed a noble Christian character, always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need and a welcome to all. The world is better for the example and influence of such royal lives.
