Robert "Bob" Dale Hopkins, 84 of Boone, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at the First Evangelical Free Church at 1407 Kate Shelley Drive in Boone, with Rev. Daniel Grell officiating.

Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council at the graveside.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, at the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family present to greet friends at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to the time of service at 10 a.m.

Bob was born on February 15, 1927, in Logansport, Iowa, to James Richard and Jamima Mae (York) Hopkins.

At the young age of 15, Bob went to work at Quinn's Machine and Foundry in Boone to help support his family. He held several positions before becoming the machine shop supervisor, eventually retiring in April 1992, after 49 years.

In April of 1945, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Army of Occupation of Germany during WWII. Bob met the love of his life, Haneshka "Ann" Yakuboska at a military dance in Frankfort, Germany. They were married on October 16, 1946. Boone then became their lifelong home, where they raised their two boys, Bob and Kenny.

Bob was a devoted member of the First Evangelical Free Church of Boone.

Bob enjoyed spending time outdoors and took great pride in the upkeep of his yard; with flowers blooming and feeding the birds. He always enjoyed going out to eat. Being around friends and family, Bob believed was the most important of all.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, his two sons, Robert and Kenneth, his parents, his five brothers and three sisters.

Surviving Bob is four grandchildren, his granddaughter, Jericho Heller and husband Steven, of Ames, Iowa; grandson, Jude Hopkins and wife Cindy, of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Kira Helvig and husband Josh, of Des Moines, Iowa; grandson, Chris Macasa of Boone, Iowa; great granddaughter, Jessica Heller of Ames, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Jeanine Hopkins of Boone, Iowa, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
