OBITUARY

Anna Lund was born in Voss, Norway, January 12, 1866, and came to this country with her parents in the same year, June 26, being month and 11 days old, when she came to Chicago with her parents, two brothers and one sister. She moved to Iowa with her parents in the year 1883. She was married to Oscar Mathre in February, 1888, and five years later became a widow, Dec. 9, 1893, when her husband died leaving her and two little boys to mourn the loss of a dear father and a loving husband.

Mrs. Mathre later kept house for her brother John Lund and in a few years moved to Story City where she made her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Knut B. Lund. Here her boys went to school and received their education. Her son Albert graduated from our high school, and later the two boys went to Ft. Dodge, where they engaged in the restaurant business, which they operated successfully until last year, when they sold out and went into the motorcycle business, which they are still running.

Mrs. Mathre remained in Story City, where she cared for her sick father until his death Dec. 22, 1908. She then moved to Fort Dodge and kept house for her two boys, William and Albert. Also taking care of her feeble mother, who is now 82 years old and sick in bed.

Friday, Jan. 22, Mrs. Mathre sat down to the dinner table with her two boys one on each side of her, feeling well and happy. After dinner she sat talking with the hired girl and at 2 o'clock went upstairs to attend to her mother. She barely got indie the room when she fainted away in an arm rocker where she became unconscious at once.

Her mother was unable to get out of bed, but gave an alarm by rapping on a stand which stood beside the bed. The girl down stairs heard it and hurried up stairs, thinking something serious was ailing her mother. Entering the room she found Mrs. Mathre in a rocking chair with her head to one side unconscious.

The hired girl immediately telephoned to the boys who had gone back to work that their mother was unconscious. They responded to the call at once with two doctors and also Rev. Danielson, who was on his way to see Mrs. Mathre's sick mother. From the time they entered the house Mrs. Mathre never regained consciousness, but died at 4 o'clock, two hours later. Her death was caused by hemorrhage of the head.

Funeral services were first held the Lutheran church at Fort Dodge, conducted by Rev. P. C. Danielson at 11 o'clock a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26. The remains were then taken to Stanhope and funeral services held at the Norem church Wednesday at one o'clock conducted by Rev. Heimarck of Story City in the Norwegian language. The remains were then taken to the Lake Center cemetery and buried beside her husband.

Besides a host of friends Anna O. Mathre leaves to mourn her death, two sons William aged 25 and Albert, aged 22, both of Fort Dodge, also a feeble mother, 3 sisters and 4 brothers, namely, Mrs. L. O. Hynning and Mrs. O. Olson, both of Chicago; Mrs. J. J. Anderson of Elmore, Minn.; Bryner K. Lund, Stanhope; Iver Lund, Jewell; and S. K. Lund of Chicago. They were all at the funeral. Olson of Story City, Mr. and Mrs. John Jacobson and daughter Millie of Jewell and Miss Mabel Jacobson of Fort Dodge.
