In Response To: Gerrit Mekking (JoAnn G. Morlan)

I have found on www.genlias.nl that Gerrit Mekking age 42 born at Ede married Antje van Beek age 43 born at Ede Gelderland, on 30 Apr 1880. After much hunting I found them spelled Makkenj in the 1900 Iowa census for West Branch township. They came to Iowa in 1893, He was a farmer. Gerrit was 62 years b. Apr 1838 .
Wife Antje b. Dec 1837 63 years. married 30 years, one child living.
Living with them was a grand son Garret Mekking b. Dec 1893 at sea, age 7.
I could not find them in subsequent census records.
I found an article in the old Dutch Sioux center newspaper that mentioned Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Mekking went to the Netherlands for a trip Jan 22, 1902...Wonder if they stayed there? They are not in the cemetery or county death records.
In the Maurice Reformed church records on the page Vertrokken op Belydenis 28 Mar 1893 Gerrit Mekking and Antje Van Beek. I think this says they became members on that date.
I will continue to hunt for them in records.
