Brian Robert Sowles was born August 28, 1959, to Robert Sowles and Shirley Sowles Van Hemert Ward in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at his residence at the age of fifty-two. Brian received his early education in the Pella Schools and graduated from Pella Community High School with the class of 1977.

On December 15, 1984 Brian was united in marriage with Laura Hoksbergen.

Brian was currently employed by the City of Pella working at the light plant. He loved to play golf and could often be found at various area courses. He also enjoyed the Caribbean beaches, going on cruises, and was well known for his generous helping hand.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Laura; his parents: Robert Sowles of Marshalltown and Shirley Van Hemert Ward and her husband, Walt, of Pella; mother-in-law, Wanda Russe of Houston, Texas; his siblings: Kim Crawford of Spokane, Washington, Scott Sowles of Chino, California, Monte Sowles of West Covina, California, and Joe Van Hemert of Pella; sister-in-law, Mindy Gertner of Katy, Texas; and brother-in-law, Nick Russe of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Cornie and Ruth Van Den Baard and Max and Helena Slaughter; his father-in-law, Shorty Hoksbergen, and step siblings-in-law, Kelly Downing and John Downing.
