Last Friday, Peter Priaulx, of Attica, went to visit his daughter, Mrs. Cain Coolley, a mile south of Round Grove School house, and about 3 'clock in the afternoon went to the stable to look after his team and put some grease on the hip of one of the horses where the harness had rubbed it, and soon after, his daughters, hearing a noise, looked out and on going to the stable found Mr. Priaulx laying outside of the stable having been kicked in the head by the horse and found that the skull at the temple was crushed in. He was conveyed to the house, and his son-in-law, Mr. Coolley, immediately summoned medical assistance from Attica and everything possible was done but without success. He lingered in an unconscious state until a quarter past 10 o'clock in the evening when he passed away. Mr. Priaulx was born in the Island of Guernsey, December 6, 1825, consequently was about 62 years of age. He came to this county over thirty years ago, being married to Miss Jemima Suits, after he came to this county. He has raised a large family and leaves a widow, six girls and one boy, all of whom are married except the boy John, and the youngest daughter, Nancy, and all now living in Marion county, and but a few miles distant from the parental home.

He was one of our most enterprising and well-to-do farmers, a fine citizen and pronounced by everybody a good man, and had raised a family that was his pride and comfort and to whom he was devoted. He was always foremost in any enterprise for the benefit of his neighborhood, and will be greatly missed in the community in which he took such an active part. He had by industry and economy accumulated a good amount of property, having a farm of 215 acres of fine land, well improved and stocked, and was living in ease and comfort. His death was a terrible shock to his family and to the whole community, who join in sympathy with the bereaved wife and children.

Funeral services were held at Indiana Chapel, Rev. S. P. Soude preaching the sermon, the funeral ceremonies being conducted by the Masonic order. Many Masons from Knoxville attending, Mr. Priaulx being a prominent and esteemed member of this lodge. The remains were buried in Indiana Chapel cemetery.
