18 November 1971 - The Anamosa Eureka

Melvin Doermann, 47, of rural Anamosa, died at his home Monday, Nov. 15 following a brief illness. Services will be Thursday, Nov. 18, 1971 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, Clarence, with the Rev. Lloyd Dutro and the Rev. Calvin Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Doermann was born in Cedar county June 27, 1924, the son of Charles and Minnie Brinkmann Doermann. A 1924 graduate of Tipton high school, he served with the First Cavalry in the South Pacific from 1944 to 1946. He was married Dec. 1, 1950 to Margaret Bell at Clarence. They farmed in the Tipton area until moving to their present home, where they lived for 12 years.

He was a member of Morley Faith United Methodist church, where he was a trustee and had served on the finance committee. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau, Jones County Beef Board, American Legion of Mechanicsville, and was an ASCS committee-man.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, and two daughters: Rebecca, a student at UNI, Cedar Falls, and Barbara, at home. Also surviving are three brothers and three sisters, Erwin and Eric Doermann, Mechanicsville; Lavern Doermann, Tipton; Mrs. John Eiben, Wheatland; Mrs. Raldo Horman, Tipton; Mrs. Harold Horman, Lowden. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Donald Bliss, Herbert Loertscher, Richard Smith, Larry Kaufman, Donzal Ehresman and Harold Ehresman. Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Thien, Leo Miller, Melvin Thiering, John Eiben, Raldo Horman and Harold Horman.
