Claudette A. Schaffer, age 89 longtime resident of Iowa City died Saturday, April 13, 2024, surrounded by family under hospice care.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thursday, April 18, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4:30 till 7 pm Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where a parish rosary will be shared beginning at 4:30pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Claudette Anne Teetsell was born July 2, 1934, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Claude and Marion (Hein) Teetsell. Following graduation from high school she was united in marriage to Leonard J. Schaffer on October 26, 1957, in St. Paul. Throughout the years Claudette held a number of different clerical and bookkeeping jobs, but always said, her most important work she could do was to care for her husband and their family. This she did with such love and pride and even as grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, her greatest joy came from being wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma! The couple and family ended up in Iowa City residing here for over 40 years. Claudette was born and raised in the Catholic Church and in Iowa City had belonged to St. Patricks Catholic Church and also St. Marys Catholic Church. Her faith, friends and family was all that she needed in this world.

Her family includes her children, Claude L. Schaffer, Linda M. Maier (Robert) and Deborah Rigel; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Colleen Adelmund; granddaughter, Tiffany Maier; siblings Marion Doody, Helen Beal, Harry, Patricia and Rita Teetsell.
