OBITUARY

MRS. MALINDA PETERSON

Mrs. Malinda Peterson was born in Aardal, Norway, Nov. 10, 1842, and died at her home in Story City, Feb. 13, 1914, aged 71 years and three months. She came to this country with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Pierson in 1846, settling in Illinois. The family came to Iowa in 1857, making the trip by horse and wagon. They settled in Story county at first, where the deceased was married to Christian Peterson in 1859. In 1860 they moved to Hamilton county where she resided until she moved to Story City in 1912.

Mrs. Peterson was the mother of nine children, three of whom preceded her to the better land. The surviving children are Mrs. Peter Burke of Ellsworth, Mrs. Helen Sydness and Mrs. James K. Johnson of Story City; Henry J. Peterson of Iowa City; E. C. Peterson of Story City and M. C. Peterson of Des Moines. Her husband died Dec. 7, 1901. There are 19 grand children and 3 great grand children.

The remains were buried in the Boe cemetery two miles north of town.

Mrs. Peterson's death was in a measure quite sudden, she having been sick only a week or so. In her passing, her children have lost a most kind and affectionate mother and the community one of its most respected pioneer women.
