OBITUARY

MRS. JOHN SCOTT

Sarah A. Johnson was born in Virginia, Oct. 26, 1833; and died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Albert Sowers near Story City, Iowa Feb. 8, 1914, after an illness of nearly a year; aged eighty years, three months and thirteen days.

She was united in marriage with John Scott, Feb. 19, 1857. Eight children blessed their home the following six of whom are still living: Susan Styles, of Waterloo, Neb.; Hannah Stewart, Luverne, Iowa; Mary Upton, Colorado City, Colo.; Maria Sowers, Story City; Martin B. Scott, Lead, S. D., Wm. D. Scott, Estherville, Ia. There are nineteen grandchildren and ten great-grand-children, four step-children, viz: Margaret Noyes of Texas; Phoebe Murray of Oklahoma; D. B. Scott of Scranton, Ia.; La Vega Scott of Dickinson, N. D. and two foster children, Mrs. Myrtle Maloney of Rutland and Edith Miller of Minneapolis. All these sincerely mourn the loss of a true pure mother and grandmother whom they expect to meet on the other side. A sister ad brother also survive, namely, Mrs. Richard Broder of Scranton and James H. Johnson of Hookeer, Neb.

Her husband preceded her to the other world on July 26, 1887.

They came west at an early date, and in 1873 settled in Hamilton county. About that time the Evangelical Association established services in the schoolhouse near their home and Mrs. Scott united with the church under the pastor ministration of Rev. S. A. Pettit. Mother Scott was a selfsacrificing woman, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in distress or trouble. She has much treasure laid up in heaven, and many shall rise up and call her blessed.

Pastor Smay preached the sermon in the Story City church, Wednesday 2 p. m. from Rev. 14:13, "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord," after having read the 20th and 21st chapters of Revelation. On Thursday the remains were accompanied by the relatives to her former home at Clarion, Ia., for interment by the side of her husband.
