Capt. James Ruth received a telegram Saturday announcing the death of his aunt, Mrs. Margaret Ann Ruth, at West Union on that day, aged sixty-eight years.

Mrs. Ruth was a former resident of this place, and is remembered well by many. From the 'Gazette' we gleam the following particulars:

She was born at Ottawa, Canada, Mch. 10, 1817. Her maiden name was Margaret Ann Clough. At an early age she became a citizen of the United States, and when twenty-two was married at Waltham, Mass., to John Ruth with whom she lived happily until his decease. Four children came to bless their union, two of whom died in infancy and two - a boy and a girl - attained years of maturity.

She came west with her husband and family about twenty-nine years ago, settled at Lansing in this state where her husband soon after died. She resided there until her removal to west Union in the Spring of 1875.

While residing at Lansing her only surviving son, John Ruth, like so many other sons of devoted mothers, responded to his country's call, joined the army for the preservation of our Union, and died in the service of his county, aged twenty-three years.

Mrs. Jennie Bushnell, her youngest child, with whom she was living at the time of her decease, alone survives her.

From her youth she had been a devoted Christian woman, and during the ministry here of Rev. J.B. Casebeer she became a member of the M.E. church at this place, continuing a member until her decease.

Surely 'tis a blessing grand
When the militant church we leave;
We may with the ransomed stand
In the triumphant church above.

A quiet, true, contented and conscientious woman has gone to her reward. A faithful wife, loving mother, and a kind friend has passed away. Her influence and example lives on to be measured only at the last day.
