GARBER: Funeral services were held in the St. John's church on Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Bertha Henrietta Rutledge, who died Saturday, July 11, after eight months of illness. Services were conducted by Rev. Coovert of Guttenberg and burial was in Mount Harmony cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Lawrence Waterman, Henry Beeh, George Gifford, Robert Hafner, Art Willman, and John Costigan.
Mrs. Rutledge, daughter of Michael and Katherine Thein, was born on November 29, 1879, on a farm one mile from Garber and at the time of her death had reached the age of 62 years, eight months and 12 days.
On May 30, 1906, she was united in marriage to William L. Rutledge and to this union six children were born, all of whom survive.
She was preceded in death by her father, two brothers, Charles and Richard, and a sister, Mrs. Josephine Benschneider.
Surviving are her husband, four sons, Gilbert of Guttenberg, Loren at home, Merlin of Garber, and Allyn of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Ruby of Dubuque, and Mrs. Anna Belle Beauchant of Cedar Rapids; her aged mother of Garnavillo; six sisters, Mrs. Lillian Tow of Jeffersonville, Ind., Mrs. Alice Bothmer of Spencer, Mrs. Anna White of Atlantic, Mrs. Ethel Meder of Garnavillo, Miss Adelaide Thein of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Mrs. Katherine Ortman of Elkport; two brothers, Arthur of Garnavillo, and Dr. Garfield Thein of Oelwein, seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
