Clayton County Register, 03 June 1942.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 Monday morning, June 01, from the St. Mary's Catholic church for James Joseph Byrnes, who died Thursday afternoon at his Clinton home, following a lingering illness. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery. The Rev. Father O. J. Boyle officiated. The son of John and Sarah (Quinn) Byrnes, he was born March 16, 1891, in Strawberry Point. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Beherns at Ponca, Neb., Jan. 12, 1915. The couple settled near Millbank, S.D., where they were engaged in farming until about six years ago, when he retired and moved to Clinton, Iowa, where he has since Resided. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Betty at home, Mrs. Ed (Delores) Winkler of Clinton, and Sister Mary Emerita of Le Mars; one granddaughter, Anna Lois Winkler; one brother, Robert Byrnes of San Antonio, Texas; and three sisters, Mrs. W. F. Barnes of Strawberry Point, Mrs. Mildred Thyne of Clinton; and Mrs. Ed Knight of Fairmont, Minn.

Among those attending the services from out-of-town were: Mr. and Mrs. Malani Barnes of Vinton; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Barnes of Alpha; Mrs. Elizabeth Byrnes, Mrs. M. Thyne and family of Clinton; Mrs. Ed Knight and family, Fairmont, Minn.
