Clayton County Register, 27 May 1942.

STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, May 23, from the Emanuel Lutheran church, for Mrs. Joseph Birrer, 76, who died at her home here, Thursday morning, following an illness of 8 years. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery. The Rev. Lawrence A. Stumme officiated.

As Barbara Handel, daughter of John and Katherine Handel, she was born March 18, 1866, in Dettingen, Germany. She came to this country when 26 years of age. She was married to Joseph Birrer, Sept. 13, 1898. The couple were engaged in farming, until 22 years ago, when they moved to town.

Surviving are the husband, a son, Fred, of Strawberry Point, 6 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Two children preceded her in death. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Jake Zimmerman of Maqoketa, Ia.
