John Rafferty was naturalized a US Citizen by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Kenton Circuit Court the Sixth Day of October 1856. He was born in Co Sligo, Ireland. on 17-Nov 1844 (according to death cert 33-1258) and died on 11-May-1926 of Arterial Sclerosis in Clermont, Iowa. His father Nicholas O'Rafferty (changed to Rafferty when they migrated to America) was born in Co Sligo, Ireland in 1799 and Died in Cincinnati, OH in 1852. Nicholas wife Mary Bridget Halpin was born in 1809 in Co Meath, Ireland and died in Clayton Co Iowa in 1890. Mary Briget Halpin's father was Patrick Halpin born in 1825 Ireland and died 12-Jul 1865 in Pennsylvania. Mary's mother was May Kearney born 1826 Ireland and died in Ireland. John Rafferty married Fay Wells born 21-Oct-1888 in Canada and died on 5-Dec-1964 in Oklahoma. John was well into his senior years before he became a father at 77 years old and had a daughter Mary Josephine Rafferty born on 14-Dec-1921 in Claremont, IA and a son John P Rafferty Jr born 1918 in Iowa. John's wife Fay was 44 years younger than John.
